Overview
The Royal Newfoundland Navy (RNN) is responsible for maritime defence, territorial water protection, fisheries enforcement, and North Atlantic security operations. Operating from four naval bases across Newfoundland and Labrador, the RNN maintains a modern fleet capable of operations from the Grand Banks to the Arctic Ocean.
As a founding member of NATO, the RNN contributes to North Atlantic security and works closely with allied navies in exercises, patrols, and maritime surveillance operations.

Naval Bases
- HMNB Argentia – Primary naval headquarters, Atlantic Fleet homeport, ship maintenance and refit facility on the Avalon Peninsula
- HMNB St. John’s – Capital naval station for coastal patrol operations and harbour defence
- HMNB Corner Brook – West coast naval base for patrol operations and fisheries enforcement
- HMNB Nain – Arctic naval outpost and northern patrol station in Northern Labrador for sovereignty operations

- NS-201 Bonavista-class Offshore Patrol Vessels – Six vessels for EEZ patrol and fisheries enforcement
- NS-301 Churchill-class Submarines – Two Arctic-capable submarines for strategic patrol and anti-submarine warfare
- Coastal Defence Vessels – Fast patrol craft for harbour defence and coastal operations
- Mine Countermeasures Vessels – Specialized craft for mine detection and clearance
- Maritime Patrol Aircraft – NF-140 Aurora II aircraft (operated by RNAF) for naval surveillance
- Naval Helicopters – NH-92 Viking helicopters for ship-based operations
