Overview

The Newfoundland Coast Guard plays a critical role in the maritime security and safety of the Republic of Newfoundland. Operating under the Ministry of Defence & National Security in close coordination with the Ministry of Fisheries & Oceans and the Newfoundland Armed Forces, the Coast Guard’s mission encompasses search and rescue, environmental protection, hydrographic and ice patrols, and the maintenance of navigational aids. It also supports civil authorities during emergencies, contributes to the defence of territorial sovereignty, and engages in joint operations with allied nations across the North Atlantic and Arctic approaches. Enhanced by modern technologies such as maritime patrol aircraft, helicopters, and UAVs, the Coast Guard maintains a vigilant presence in Newfoundland and Labrador’s waters and the wider Arctic region, supporting the Republic’s NATO commitments and ensuring readiness and resilience in varied maritime domains.

• Maritime Surveillance and Reconnaissance Unit (in coordination with the Royal Newfoundland Air Force)
• Corner Brook Patrol Station – west coast patrol and logistics base
