Ministries

The Government of the Republic of Newfoundland operates through specialized ministries, each led by a Cabinet Minister responsible to the House of Assembly.

Overview

These ministries deliver public services, implement government policy, and manage key sectors of the Republic. Each ministry is accountable to the House of Assembly and works to serve the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security

Supports agricultural development and food security initiatives

Ministry of Defence and National Security

Ensures national security and provides civilian oversight of the Newfoundland Armed Forces

Ministry of Education, Science, and Culture

Manages education systems and research, and supports cultural life, including Mi’kmaq and other Indigenous languages and cultures

Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Environment

Oversees energy policy, mining operations, and environmental protection across Newfoundland and Labrador

Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning

Manages government finances and economic strategy, including planning for a resilient maritime and Arctic economy

Ministry of Fisheries and Maritime Resources

Regulates fisheries and maritime industries and supports sustainable ocean-based livelihoods

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade

Conducts diplomatic relations and international trade on behalf of the Republic as a sovereign founding NATO member state

Ministry of Health and Social Development

Oversees healthcare services and social programs throughout Newfoundland and Labrador

Ministry of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation

Works in partnership with Indigenous communities, including the Mi’kmaq of Newfoundland, to advance rights, recognition, and reconciliation

Ministry of Innovation and Digital Affairs

Promotes technology innovation and digital transformation in support of a connected, knowledge-based republic

Ministry of Labour and Industry

Oversees labour relations and industrial development across key sectors of the economy

Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure

Manages transportation networks and public infrastructure, including critical North Atlantic and Arctic links
